"Orange Kayak" oil en plein air 8x10

Oak Bay Marina has a new boathouse - first I made a little thumbnail sketch (under two inches wide) to determine my composition.

Then I painted the scene in thick juicy oils, concentrating on the tones, diminishing the extraneous detail. (Done in an hour).

Robert Genn always encouraged us to look for what he called 'a colour surprise.' To my delight, there was a kind yellowish algae at the water's edge. Bazinga!
